Product Engineer (San Francisco Bay Area)
We think of Product Engineers as full-stack web developers who focus on the core application logic, but can also do basic UI work and database design. Ideally, people in this role would be “T-shaped” with depth in a particular area but the ability to be a generalist and get anything done.
The engineering team is lean and quick – we use paper prototyping, agile development, test driven development, and A/B testing to deploy daily releases to the world. Engineers are directly involved in business decisions like user acquisition and monetization, and receive constant feedback from customers via analytics and e-mail contact. Our development stack is 100% open source and is built on Ruby on Rails.
Role and responsibilities
Your responsibilities at will be to:
- Build a fun, creative consumer experience for millions of people worldwide
- Own new feature releases end-to-end
- Deploy code daily and use A/B testing to measure impact on usage
- Work directly with backend and systems engineers for creating, integrating, and launching new products
- Collaborate as a team on business decisions around traffic acquisition, metrics, and monetization
- Design and prototype customer-facing interactions and features
- Assist on qualitative and quantitative user research, ethnographic studies, and usability testing
- Reports directly to CTO/co-founder
Technologies we use
You should want to learn or have prior experience with the following:
- Ruby, C++, and EventMachine for core architecture
- Rails, jQuery, Haml, and Sass for frontend development
- Cucumber, Bacon, Watir, and Git for testing and source control
- Munin, God, and Vlad for monitoring and deployment
Qualifications
- BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Development experience in Ruby and front-end frameworks/technologies
- Previous work in Flash and Flex is desired
- Familiar with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent creative tools
- Passion for crafting an amazing consumer experience

UI Designer (San Francisco Bay Area)
We think of UI Designer as advocates for design thinking and bridging the dialog between customers and the company’s engineers. This requires a specialized ability to rapid prototype, talk to many different constituencies, and take the lead on visual and interaction design – a combination of soft and hard skills.

- Lead discussions around visual and interactive design and champion high-quality product experiences
- Design and prototype customer-facing products using OmniGraffle, Photoshop, Balsamiq, and other tools
- Collaborate as a team on business decisions around traffic acquisition, metrics, and monetization
- Assist on qualitative and quantitative user research, ethnographic studies, and usability testing
- Development skills are preferred but not required: Handcode clean, beautiful and maintainable JS, XHTML, CSS
- Reports directly to CTO/co-founder

- Canvas, Flash/Flex, Actionscript 3 for RIA development
- Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Inkscape for visual design
- Paper/pencil, Balsamiq, and Omnigraffle for wireframing
Qualifications
- BA/MA or equivalent experience
- Strong professional experience in visual design, user experience, and interaction design
- An eye for color, typography, graphic design, illustration
- Experience working with user generated content, online social interactions, or e-commerce products
- Development experience in Ruby and front-end frameworks/technologies
- Familiar with Adobe Flash/Flex, Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent creative tools
- Passion for crafting an amazing consumer experience
