Comments

The 2009 conference season begins
Happy new year! Recently, Jason Oberfest of MySpace put together a great resource of a bunch of digital media tech conferences. I added a couple ad-related conferences, and he agreed to graciously share.

Is this list complete?
Of course this list isn’t complete at all. If there’s anything missing in the list, please leave a link in the comments!

The digital media conference list (so far):

Demos and General Technology

Platforms, apps, and widgets

Online Advertising events

Gaming

Finance

Business and analysts

UPDATED: added a couple games and search ones, courtesy reminders from Jameson Hsu, Joe Ludwig, Lee Clancy, Wallen’s, Niki Scevak Charles Hudson, Andrew Parker, and Jonathan Mendez. Thanks!

  • Andrew, great list of the mainstream events. Which will you be attending?
  • as few as possible ;-)
Darren, am I missing any gaming conferences that you would add?
  • I think most folks nailed it.

I'm very interested in the marketing conferences.
  • Dissing search? ;)

It will be interesting to see attendance. Pretty hard to justify $1k to hit a conference these days.
  • whoops. What else should be on there other than SES?
  • Danny Sullivan's SMX Conferences & PubCon come top of mind for Search. Also
I submit Affiliate Summit and eMetrics to be added.
  • fine suggestions! thank you sir
  • just re-updated the list with your ideas

Here are some dates from an elearning/tech perspective: http://elearningtech.blogspot.com/2009/01/elear...
  • You're missing both of the big MMO conferences:
    http://www.2009.loginconference.com/
    http://www.austingdc.net/
  • thanks! Just added it.
  • Robin
The virtual goods conference looks like a good one, but the link is for October 2008. Do you know if they're planning it again for 2009? Did anyone who attended find it valuable?
  • I'm sure Charles will do it again. I think he's working on an iPhone gaming conference right now also.

I spoke and attended at the last conference and thought it was great. Would definitely recommend it.
  • Hey Andrew,
Here's another one for the games/virtual worlds set: Engage! Expo (March 10/11, 2009 in NYC, formerly Virtual Worlds 2009)

    http://www.engageexpo.com/index.html
  • ah, of course. I added it to the list, thank you.
  • Thanks for these great lists!
Since you have LeWeb up there, here are 2 other general tech conferences in European
    - The Next Web conference in Amsterdam (http://2009.thenextweb.com/)
    - Lift in Geneva (http://www.liftconference.com)
  • Hi Andrew, here is another conference for your list: J. Boye Conferences Philadelphia 09. Our Philadelphia conference in May is modeled on our successful European conference, now in its 5th year, in Aarhus, Denmark. Website for Philly conference is http://jboye.com/conferences/philadelphia09/ (Most recent conference: http://jboye08.dk) Look forward to seeing it added to the list! Thanks - Lau Andreasen
  • Leadscon.com is also one of the best in the online advertising category.
  • Niki, you're the best!

March 4 -5 in Las Vegas.

    Jay Weintraub
    Leadscon.com
  • of course, how could I forget. I added it to the above.
  • added it and gave you credit too! Thanks.
  • Hey Andrew what 3 would you recommend for someone seeking to learn more about integrating social media into the non-profit sector?
  • tough question - some of the larger ones, like Web 2.0 Expo, are likely to have stuff specifically about your topic - the smaller events (like Startonomics) are great once you are tactically executing a plan and need to understand more about the nitty gritty. So if you are reasoning by analogy, I'd mostly stick with the big conferences in the Demo/General tech area.
  • Nice list! I added a few of the names to the Google Calendar with conferences that I have. You'll find a few more European ones there too: http://tinyurl.com/conferencecalendar
  • dan

Have you been using Gary's Guide at all? It also has a good list of events.
  • added!

    What's gary's guide? I'll check it out...
  • It's like upcoming.org but only for tech and media events:

    http://sf.garysguide.org/
  • Might add Money:Tech in nyc to either personal finance or Business sectors.
  • Oliver

  • Thanks for pulling this together, Andrew. From Philadelphia, we offer the Emerging Tech for the Enterprise conference. The conference provides a great venue for developers and designers interested in the latest technologies used in Digitial Media and software in general (Ruby, Springs, iPhone Apps). Also includes some killer tracks for management hoping to use these technologies.

  • Useful list Andrew, thanks.

This is one which I attended last year (travelling from Ireland to do so) and I will be there again this year. A great 2 day gathering of businesses in the subscription/freemium space.

Unfortunately it does not leak into the Web2 world a whole lot and certainly gets little attention on this side of the Atlantic. My live blogging notes from 2008 are here if anyone is interested:
