Thanks- This is great stuff. I think the Paypal guys and the Founders Fund (Sean Parker etc...) folks really really take viral action stuff seriously. http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/03/29/project-agape-sean-parker-to-apply-virality-to-altruism

Thats one of the reasons that Project Agape (now on facebook.com) has the huge donate button which is an inherently viral action.

This maybe semantics and probably doesn't make much practical difference but I am really confused if YouTube is actually a "viral action" product as much as much making it easy for distribution (e.g. Embedding).

The confusion comes from what is the difference between say me fwding a link of NYTimes or say a Flickr photograph to a friend. Are these products also inherently viral? Probably not.

I think YouTube won out because of the reasons Fred Wilson laid out. Simply put, they were the first guys to take 1) Make it easy to source "GREAT CONTENT" (i.e. upload in any format) 2)View it easily (i.e. flash and instant playback without downloading anything) 3)Distribute it (ie. embedding it)
