&lt;p&gt;Again, essentially what you&#039;re saying is that branding comes down to trust.  We&#039;ve been over this.  I&#039;m not saying metrics might be a replacement for people.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;What Scott is saying is that media companies have been talking about &quot;engagement&quot; in the abstract for years now, and now there might be a way to measure this in a more objective manner.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I don&#039;t think anyone is trying to dethrone trust/branding.  But what they are trying to do is come up with a target for reaching audiences that is a bit less hazy than advertising of the previous century.&lt;/p&gt;
